The Bible says we are all called to be witnesses and ambassadors for our Lord. In addition, many of us are gifted and called as Evangelists.
And He gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ; Eph 4:11-12
Our role as evangelists is to be part of equipping believers and building the body to be part of expanding God’s kingdom.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8
He also says in 2 Cor 5:20 we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us.
As Evangelists and Pastors, how can we be better at teaching others to be witnesses and ambassadors for Christ?
God can use our qualifications, education, talents, and background, but He doesn’t need any of those things. He just needs us to accept His plan and our place in it. Even the Apostle Paul, stepped into his journey with God with some fear, so there’s no shame in feeling the same. God can use anyone if we will let Him.
What is a witness?
As a Biblical witness, we are filled with the Holy Spirit and are given power to speak the word boldly! Acts 4:31
Notice carefully in Acts 1 that God has called us to be witnesses. God has not called us to be lawyers. He has not called us to be prosecuting attorneys. He has not called us to be judges. He called us to be witnesses. He has simply called us to witness to the Lord Jesus Christ and His saving power and leave the results to Him.
Why we don’t talk to the lost
- We don’t know what to say – It’s hard to start conversations with unbelievers, whether they are strangers or friends.
- Fear of rejection – No one wants to be rejected or have a confrontation, so our fear paralyzes us.
- Lack of Christ’s compassion – we don’t truly care enough.
- Satan doesn’t want the good news spread.
Being a daily witness involves seeking opportunities to share your story with others and asking questions of them so you can share who Jesus is.
There are many ways to witness about Christ. The important thing is to do it, whether it is one-on-one, in small groups, in conversation, with strangers, with friends and co-workers, and the list goes on.
One way that is very effective is learning to share your brief faith story.
Everyone will listen as you share a brief testimony involving your life in 3 short segments.
- Life before Christ.
- Turning Point when you met Christ.
- Since you met Christ.
I always finish with a sentence on what it would be like if I had never met Christ.
It is exciting sharing your faith in Christ with others and also really exciting when we as Pastors and Evangelists see others engage in sharing the gospel. The world will not be won to Christ by the paid professionals but only when ordinary men, women, boys, and girls step up and share their faith story.
No plan B
I’d like to leave you with a little story.
In this tale, a group of angels had gathered around the Lord Jesus Christ when He had come back from Earth after rising from the dead. They were asking Him questions, and one angel said, “Lord, how are you going to spread the Gospel message throughout the world?”
Jesus said, “I have called out disciples to carry out my great commission. They will go and share this wonderful message with others who will respond, and they in turn will go and share with others who need to be saved.” The angel replied, “Are you telling me that you have entrusted the task of getting out the message of eternal life and salvation – the greatest news in all of creation – to those earthlings, counting on them to be witnesses to the Gospel message and to take it around the world?”
The Lord Jesus affirmed, “That’s absolutely right.”
The angel looked at Him with a face of worry and doubt. “Well Lord, what if they don’t do what you command them to do? What is Plan B?”
The Lord replied, “There is no Plan B.”
Friends, there is no Plan B. The Lord has left the great commission to us.
Be the Church to the hurting world that is waiting to hear from you.
One day Jesus is coming back for His church and that is the hope we have as believers. It will be a glorious day! Until that day, let’s keep celebrating His name and proclaiming His message to everyone God puts in our path.
